My Unbelievable Story
I'll never forget that day, standing there on the scale, with tears in my eyes. I could not believe that I had allowed myself to get this big. I stood there as the scale read 443 pounds (yes, honey, 443), and I was literally unable to step off the scale, because I was in shock. The nurse was very kind to me, and she assured me that this would be the last time that I saw my weight be this high. The year was 2007 and I’d recently moved to Dallas, Texas.

It was at this point when:
In 2007, I had my very first bariatric surgery in the form of Lap Band Surgery. I did lose a significant amount of weight. To be more exact, I lost over 150 pounds with the first surgery. After that great success, I began to notice that I was unable to swallow at times and began having other digestive problems. The weight slowly began to creep back up on me and I found myself back up over 340+ pounds. I was terrified because there was NO WAY I would go back to that miserable state of the year 2007!
After relocating back to Memphis in 2017, I began to research why I was having problems and learned that my Lap Band had slipped and needed to be removed. I could have it removed and replaced with another bariatric surgery. I said 'no thank you' and went on to try to lose the weight on my own.
That did not work at all and while I had minimal success, I knew that I needed medical help!
In 2019, I began the process to get approved for the gastric bypass surgery and I had a second bariatric surgery in 2020, about one month before the pandemic hit! I lost an additional 100 pounds after the second surgery and am still working to lose more weight.
